Day Thirty: A picture of someone you miss

This is a two-fer because I miss both of the people in this picture! Aubrey, because I haven't seen her in like three weeks (so lame :() and Jessica because I haven't seen her in over a year...even lamer.  Hopefully that will be changing VERY soon! (On both counts 'cause I could use a trip to New Hampshire!)

Day Twenty-Nine: A picture that makes you smile

Obviously this picture is a bit silly, but that's not why it makes me smile.  It makes me smile becuase I remember how much fun Aubrey and I had on that trip and all the awesome things we did.  We flew 1000 miles to get there and drove over 2100 miles after that. All in about 4 days.  It was totally worth it and even though we got lost a few times (and almost ended up in Canada! Oops!) and things didn't work out at all the way we planned them, there's no one I'd rather have been there with! :)

Day Twenty-Eight: A picture of something you're afraid of

It was difficult to find a good picture to represent my point here but the thing I'm afraid of is what will happen to the world if we keep treating it the way we are.  Already you can feel and see the effects of global warming and if we continue the way we are it will only get worse.  It's a scary thing to think about.

Day Twenty-Seven:A picture of yourself and a family member

I'm recently moved all the photos from my computer onto discs in order to make more space on it so that's making it kind of difficult to meet these challenges!  After flipping through like seven discs I settled on this not-too-hateful picture of me and my sister, Laura. I think it's about three years old (she doesn't even live in this apartment anymore!) but the challege didn't specify when and, let's face it, we both look pretty much the same! :P

Day Twenty-Six: A picture of something that means a lot to you

Easy. My kitties, Aoife and Eoghan. They're my babies and they're completely spoiled. lol...but they're also very loved and happy. :) And that's what counts!

Day Twenty-Five: A picture of your day

My day today was fairly awful. I worked all day and it rained all day.  My camera has died and my phone hates me and won't send any pictures today.  I also managed to lose one of my earrings which is totally lame since I can't replace it :(  So I'm putting up a picture of somewhere I'd like to have spent my day instead.  This is Whale Beach in Sydney, Australia.  If I ever get to actually spend a day here, you can all forget my number because there's no way on earth I'm coming back!  :P

Day Twenty Four: A picture of something you wish you could change

Obviously, like most people, when asked what the thing I would most like to change is, world peace is the first thing that comes to mind. The thing about world peace is, it doesn't change a lot of the other things that are wrong with the world and the people in it.  World peace doesn't cure hunger or end disease or lower gas prices!  So I'm choosing this picture instead.  Envrionmental conservation is something that I'm very passionate about.  I recycle, I don't consume meat, I make my own laundry soap, I buy free trade products...I'm even switching over to bars of shampoo to conserve water and energy (and everyone knows how much I love beauty products!).  Whenever possible I try to buy vegan, organic, and local items.  People don't realize how the little things like turning off the water while you brush your teeth, or buying bar soap instead of body wash could really make a big impact on the world.  We could really change the future of this planet if we'd all just chip in a little bit. :)

Day Twenty Three: A picture of your favorite book

I read this book when I was about 10 years old and I've loved it ever since.  I don't know that it's really my FAVORITE book because I LOVE reading and there are so many books that I've read over and over.  It is most certainly one of my most loved books though and it's one that I think everyone should read at some point in their lives. It really changes the way you look at the world!

Day Twenty-Two: A picture of something you wish you were better at

I'm learning (slowly) to play the guitar.  Mostly for the purpose of being able to play "Yesterday".  But also because I enjoy learning new things and I've always wanted to know how to play.  So today I'm posting this picture of someone who obviously trumps me in the guitar skill department! :)

Day Twenty-One: A picture of something you wish you could forget

This should need no explanation from me for people who know me well!  These apartments were the bane of my existance.  I only lived there for a year and a half but it's the only place I can honestly say I ever actually hated living (and I've lived in A LOT of places!).  Not only are they dark and small and cold but my neighbors weren't exactly the kind of people you want to run into in a hallway after dark!  I'm so glad that I don't have to live there anymore, and I never will again!

Day Twenty: A picture of somewhere you'd love to travel

There are so many places I'd love to travel to.  Australia, England, Italy, Greece...I could go on.  Today I'm posting this picture of Paris, France.  I've been brushing up on my French lately and it's making me really want to see France.  Plus I'd love to see Versaille, The Lourve, and eat some Lauderee maccaroons! You know with me it's always about the food!! :P

Day Nineteen: A picture of you when you were little

This is the easiest post I've done so far!! Here is a picture of me at three days old :) It's my favorite picture of me as a baby.

Day Eighteen: A picture of your biggest insecurity

This is one I had to really think about.  I don't really have a lot of insecurities, and I never have. I'm sure that makes me seem really egotistical but it's not about having an ego I just simply don't look at myself in an objective way usually.  I'm quite happy with who I am and with where I'm going in life.  There are things I'd like to change about myself certainly but I also recognize that I'm making changes where I can and that some things are just meant to be what they are and I have to accept that.  I'm putting up a picture of this ladder because the only thing I really feel insecure about is succeeding. There are a lot of things I'd like to accomplish and even though I'm moving towards my goals, there is always a fear that I maybe I won't get where I want to go.

Day Seventeen: A picture of something that has had a huge impact on your life recently

This actually goes hand in hand with my last post.  Sir Paul McCartney.  I learned about a year ago about his campaign for Meatless Monday.  The plan is simple: one day a week don't eat meat.  Easy, right?  Well it turned out to be way easier than that for me and I went vegetarian in May of last year.  Being a vegetarian has had a huge impact on my life because I'm a great lover of food and I was very concerned about being restricted.  But instead it's opened up whole new food worlds to me.  Who knew I liked leeks?  I sure didn't.  Besides that it's made me feel healthier, less tired, and have less headaches.  It might not be for everyone, but I'm loving it and I'm glad that Meatless Monday (and Sir Paul) came along! :)

Day Sixteen: A picture of a person who inspires you

I say this everyday, and it's true again today.  There are so many people I could put up here.  But I'm using Sir Paul McCartney because he's inspired me the most as of late.  Paul grew up rather poor and without a whole lot of support behind him. He lost his mother at a young age and taught himself to play the bass.  And from that he became the number one selling artist of all time.  He's also a vegetarian, a humanitarian, and an all around great guy.  True, he had some less than stellar days in his youth but he's learned from all his mistakes and he just gets better with time!! :)  What better to aspire to?

Day Fifteen: A picture of something you want to do before you die.

There are so many things I want to get the chance to do before I leave this Earth.  Write a novel, visit all 50 states (23 so far and counting!), and learn to play "Yesterday" on the guitar are just a few.  But today I'm putting up one of my travel goals.  Something I've always wanted to do is spend a year living in a foriegn country.  I think it would be so great to soak up the culture and language and foods of somewhere else.  And it might make me appriciate America a little more (or not, but either way change is good!).  So here is a picture of London.  I NEED to see London before I die.  And if I could live there for a year too, well, I certainly wouldn't complain! :)

Day Fourteen: A picture of someone you couldn't imagine your life without

This one was a little tough for me too. There are so many people in my life that I wouldn't want to be without. My parents, my siblings, my best friend...but I'm picking Mark.  The past year or so has been a tough one for both of us and if we hadn't been able to lean on each other I'm not sure where we'd be.  Even though sometimes I want to kill him, I'm blessed to have such an amazing friend and support in my life.  He always knows how to make me laugh even when I want to cry and he's always there when I need him (if he remembers to charge his phone!) And...as he always reminds me...he let's me live with him rent free! ;P

Here he is at Fenway Park doing what he does best...drinking and watching sports! :P

Day Thirteen: A picture of your favorite band or artist

This is so HARD for me. I love, love, LOVE music.  I have so many favorites and it's so hard to choose just one...but I'm going with The Beatles on this one!  I definitely am not a lifer on the Beatles bandwagon.  I didn't start to really get into them until late 2009 when The Beatles Rockband came out.  Of course I knew all the popular songs: Can't Buy Me Love, All You Need is Love, I Wanna Hold Your Hand, etc. etc. etc.  I always loved the idea of Guitar Hero but my hands are NOT equipped to play the guitar and the songs on those games are always so awful.  Eighties hair bands and modern "rock" songs.  Terrible.  I knew that the Beatles Rockband would be much better musically and boy was it ever!!  I started out as the drummer on the game and quickly elevated to guitar and singing (usually at the same time!) since the keys on the guitar are much closer together on the rockband guitar it was much easier to play.  And the songs. Well...let's not even go there.  I fell totally in love with the music AND the band! As it turns out, the best of the Beatles are the songs they didn't release as singles!  Now I have most of the old vintage records, all the remastered CD's plus the game on THREE systems.  I may have been a late Beatles bloomer but I'm making up for lost time!

Day Twelve: A picture of something you love

There are so many things I could put on here.  Some things that come to mind (other than living beings!) are Earl Grey tea, avocados, vintage things, fat straws, music, animals, British accents, thunderstorms, and records on a rainy day...the list goes on and on.  Since I am a lover of nature and also of the city of Boston I'm using this picture of Boston Commons.  Not only is it a beautiful park, but I also love it because it's sort of a reprieve from the city and I love that about it.  If you walk outside the park you're surrounded by buildings and busses and streets and people rushing from here to there. But once you step inside it's a whole new world.  Things move more slowly, the atmosphere is more relaxed, and it's almost like you're in a whole different city...until you get to the other side that is!   The infamous golden ducks also reside in this park and I remember once walking what felt like miles in the 40 degree, drizzling fall of Boston just to see those stupid ducks.  I didn't love that so much. :P

Bonus picture today is my second favorite place in the whole world: Harvard Yard. I could literally LIVE here :) (Who wants to pay my tuition? :P)

Day Eleven: A Picture of Something You Hate

I have a lot of pet peeves, but nothing irks me more than when someone uses poor grammar.  I mean, come on! You spent 13 years (or more) learning how to properly use the English language, the least you could do is use it correctly!  There are times when I, like everyone, say things that aren't completely grammatically correct but I know when to use it properly and when it's OK to talk like I'm uneducated!  Also, this habit people have lately of adding seven or eight extra vowels to things is driving me completely mad! End rant. :P

Day 10: A picture of you and the person you do the most messed up things with

This is a no brainer -- and it's for sure Aubrey!  We don't just do messed up things though! We do awesome things as well. Together we've met the TAPS team, been to two Obama rallies, took an impromptu trip to DC to see the Rally to Restore Sanity/Fear, visited Holland and Saugatuck, Michigan, and New England, and so much more.  No matter where we go we always have so much fun doing it.  Probably the craziest thing we've done is decide one weekend to take a trip.  We literally threw a bunch of cities names in a hat and then chose one on the morning of our departure.  We spent most of that trip on the beach in Michigan and jumping off the steps of a lighthouse to get the perfect picture (which we never really succeeded at!).  When we're together we're also SUPER silly and half the time (according to Mark :P) you can't even understand us! lol...but that's why she's my very BEST friend :)

Day Nine: A picture of the person who has gotten you through the most

There are a few people I could put in this spot.  I thought of Aubrey immediately, and then a few other people but I ultimately decided on my father.  He wins somewhat by default because I've known him the longest!  But also because I'm a total Daddy's girl and always have been.  I can always count on my dad for advice (even though I don't always like it) and a loud opinion! But also for laughs and hugs and support even when I'm being totally crazy.  My father taught me to be strong in my faith, to take things a day at a time, and that if you work hard enough, anything is possible.  Even when he's not around to be supportive of me, I always have the things he taught me to help me make the right decisions. :)  This is a picture of me doing what I do best (being ridiculously cute!) and him doing what he does best (sleeping! :P)

Day Eight: A picture that makes you laugh

I went through a lot of pictures before I settled on this one of my Himalayan kitty, Aoife. She was playing with her favorite pink ball and I went over to try to take it from her.  She didn't like that. At. All.  Immediately she rolled over, grabbed the ball with all FOUR paws, and gave me this look as if to say "Don't even try it."

The picture makes me laugh for a lot of reasons but mostly just because she frequently makes this face when you try to take things from her.  She's a very prissy kitty.  She also frequently rolls her eyes at people as if to say "I'm too good for this."  Silly Aoife.

Below is an example of said eye rolling. You can just see the contempt. :P

Day Seven: A picture of your most prized posession

This was another tough one for me. Mostly because I honestly don't OWN anything that I couldn't stand to live without.  I thought about putting up my iPod becuase I LOVE music and I don't know how I'd make it through the day without it. But really, my iPod dies all the time because I'm awful at remembering to charge it and I just use my phone or the radio or whatever in the mean time.  I also considered my iPhone. Winston is my lifeline, I don't know what I'd do without him...but at the same time, I'm pretty awful at remembering to charge him too...and even though it's hella annoying when it happens, I still make it through my day.  Also considered putting up Aoife and Eoghan. They're certainly my loves...but I hate to think of myself as OWNING them.  So I'm putting up my record collection.  It's taken me years to collect them and I get so much joy out of listening to them.  There's such a wonderful sound to a record...the faint whirring as the turntable goes 'round and the scratchy quality it infuses into the music.  Everything sounds old and soothing and wonderful on a record player.  There are some in my collection that I prize more highly than others (can we say "Hey Jude"?")  but I love them all and I'd hate to think of my life without them :)

Bonus picture of Aoife sitting on all my prized records because she can't seem to leave me alone when I'm home. She has to follow me everywhere I go. Good thing I don't mind. :)

Day Six: A picture of someone you'd like to trade places with for a day

Right, like you wouldn't.  Victoria Beckham is gorgeous, successful, classy, AND she gets to go home to David Beckham every night. Who wouldn't want to trade places with her?  There are so many people who I could put up for today and some of them are admittedly more serious than others (can we say President Obama?) but honestly, I already have to worry about wars and healthcare and taxes and everything else on a daily basis.  If I got to be someone else for a day, I'd like it to be someone who would have a lot of fun. And I know Victoria Beckham would -- and she'd look damn fine in the process!

Day Five: A picture of your favorite memory

This is a difficult one. First of all, I don't really have a favorite memory. I mean, I've done and seen a lot of really great things with wonderful people. I have great memories of my childhood (though admittedly I don't have pictures of most of those things!) and it would be incredibly hard to choose just ONE favorite memory to post. So I'm uploading two pictures of awesome memories I've made in the past couple of years. The first is of a Paul McCartney concert I saw in Pittsburgh this past August (bonus points that George is in the picture too!) and the second is Aubrey and I at the Wright Patt Air Force Base meeting the TAPS team from Ghosthunters (bonus points because Steve is wicked hot! :P)

Day Four: A picture of your night

Okay, so this is not exactly a picture of my night TONIGHT...but it should be because I would kill to be back in Boston right now.  There's nothing exciting going on tonight so rather than post nothing or something lametastic, I'm posting this picture I took in Boston in August.  It's making my mouth water a little bit looking at it because I happen to know that I was standing about 6 blocks from Hanover St. when this was taken and that's where Mike's Pastry is located. They make AWESOME almond maccaroons.  I mean AWE.SOME. *Sigh*

Day Three: Post a photo of the cast of your favorite television show.

Did anyone have any doubt it would be the cast of LOST?  I so loved this show.  Not only did it have action and mystery and romance but it also had something that more shows need: Dominic Monaghan!  All kidding aside this show seriously rocks my world.  I spent hours and hours trying to figure out the intricacies of the plot line and trying to predict how the next episode would go--mostly without much success.  I still watch it all the time and I still have unanswered questions about the show...but that's part of the amazingness that is LOST!

Day Two: Post a photo of yourself and someone you've been close with for a long time.

This one confused me a little bit.  I mean, someone who is close to me could mean a lot of things.  Is it supposed to be a friend, a lover, a family member?  I have no idea. Since it was left open ended I'm using this photo of myself and my best friend of 13 years, Aubrey.  This ridiculously cute photo of us was taken on the DC metro while we were on our way to the Rally To Restore Sanity/Fear in October of this year.  We are dressed like bears because it's the thing Stephen Colbert says Americans should most fear! :)

Day One: Post a photo of yourself with 15 facts

Facts about me:
1. I have two college degrees.
2. I'm a vegetarian--and no-- I don't miss eating meat.  Exept sushi. And SPAM.
3. My favorite US city is Boston.
4. I have lived in 4 states.
5. I can speak fluent Spanish, though I rarely do.
6. I'm totally addicted to sweet & sour twizzlers.
7. I have to listen to at least 3 hours of music a day. If I don't...I get seriously cranky.
8. I can't stand poor grammar and text speak.
9. I love avocados. And almonds.
10. I'm terrified of drowning, even though I know how to swim.
11. My favorite reading subject is the Holocaust, and yes, it's ridiculously depressing.
12. I love playing tennis.
13. I think LOST is the best television show in history.
14. I love thunderstorms...the smell, the sound...everything about them.
15. I have two cats and I treat them like my children :)

The Challenge

Someone sent me a link recently to something called a thirty day photo challenge.  I'm always up for a challenge, and Lord knows I have a million pictures so I thought, why not? But in doing some research on these "30 Day Photo Challenges" I realized that there are actually hundreds of them.  All of them have the same premise; post a photo of something with a caption.  But none have the same parameters.  Some ask you to offer facts about yourself and your life, while others stick to the superficial -- tell us your favorite color or your favorite food.  So I'm on a mission to complete 12 of these thirty day challenges. One for every month of the year.  I'm starting with the very first one I was sent and from there I will choose one at random every month.  By the end of this year...you should all know me quite well! :P
